In July of 2018, IGN would publish a Dead Cells review written by Filip Miucin and titled “The best thing to do with your Dead Cells”. It would be noticed immediately for plagiarism from a small YouTube channel called Boomstick Gaming.
Gameplay
In Boom Stick, players take control of a bazooka and must strategically destroy crates and other obstacles in order to advance through the game. The gameplay is simple but captivating, and the game offers hours of fun and challenges for puzzle enthusiasts.
In July of 2018, a small YouTube gaming channel called Boomstick Gaming published a review of the popular video game Dead Cells. The review was glowing, but it soon came to light that IGN’s own review of the game had been plagiarized from the smaller channel.
IGN would pull the review, and Filip Miucin (who worked on the review) would be fired shortly thereafter. While he would continue to post video reviews on his own channel, none of them gained much traction or attention. The scandal would damage IGN’s reputation, but they were still able to maintain their popularity and readership afterward. However, it did hurt Boomstick Gaming a bit as well. They continued to post video reviews of new games, but they did so with less frequency and they weren’t as good as they used to be.
Rules
For the boom stick game, divide students into teams and give them a set of task cards. On each popsicle stick, write a number corresponding to one of the problems or questions on the task card. You will also want to write the word “BOOM!” on a few sticks. Each team will take turns drawing a stick and solving the problem on the task card. If they are correct, they keep the stick. If they are incorrect, they must return the stick to the cup. The team with the most sticks at the end of the class period wins.
With good humour thoughtfully delivered with great aplomb and style, Fist Full of Boomstick has a lot to offer and carries itself well enough to compensate for some of its short comings.
Materials
Thunder sticks are a great way to raise money for school sports teams and booster clubs. They also make a fun promotional item for businesses and events. You can even customize them with your logo and branding to get more visibility for your cause.
To make a boom stick, you’ll need some popsicle sticks, task cards, and a cup or bin to hold the sticks while playing. You’ll also want to make sure that you have enough task cards to go around for each group of students.
Non-reusable bam bams have a shorter turnaround time than the reusable ones, but they don’t allow for full customization of design and color. They have a valve that allows you to inflate and deflate them and they appear similar to a mylar balloon. They also have a lower-pitched sound than the reusable bam bams.
Variations
Unlike Angry Birds, which has enemies that are in close proximity to your device, the enemies in Boom Stick can be a little further away. This adds both a challenge and an extra level of fun to the game.
Another variation of the game involves writing addition facts, state capitals, irregular past tense verbs (if you teach ESL like I do) or sight words on popsicle sticks and placing them in a container. Kids then take turns pulling sticks. If they answer a question correctly, they get to keep the stick. If they pull a “kaboom” stick, all the sticks go back into the container.
